Purpose:

we aim to report a case of optic neuritis in hypereosinophilic syndrome.
|

A 31 year old man presented with decreased in visual acuity of right eye to the Khalili hasoital,shiraz,iran. His visual acuity is 1/10 in Rt eye and 10/10 in left eye. Marcus gun in right eye was +3.Slit lamp examination and fundus examination of both eyes were normal .single visual field analysis showed visual field defect in upper part of right eye.His initial work up was normal except for eosinophilia in complete blood count(total wbc count:39820 with 58.1%eosinophilia). so work- ups for rule out the secondary causes of hypereosnophilia were started for him.In the end patient was diagnosed as hypereosinophilic syndrome and treatment with Prednisolone(75mg QD),Imatinib(20mg BID) and hydroxyuria (500mg Q8h)was started for him and patient dramatically respond to it.

Conclusion:
|
This case outlines that hypereosinophilic syndrome can be an underlying cause for optic neuritis and with keeping in mind this differential diagnosis we could reduce the visual sequels.
