Purpose:
|
The aim of this study was to determine the Neuro-ophthalmic emergencies can cause life-threatening or sight-threatening complications.
|
Methods:
|
This was a single-center, prospective cohort pilot study of patients with acute neuro-ophthalmic manifestations.
|
Results:
|
Thirty –five subjects were enrolled; 66% had findings concerning for optic nerve swelling diagnosed by an ophthalmologist on fundus examination and the remainder had Anisocoria ,
, including carotid dissection (miosis) and aneurysmal third nerve palsy (mydriasis), Ptosis may be a sign of either Horner syndrome or third nerve palsy.

Conclusion:
|
The results of our study suggest that Understanding the anatomy and physiology of the eye, the orbit, and the central connections is key to understanding neuro-ophthalmologic emergencies.
