Purpose:

penetrating ocular traumas are one of the most important causes of decreased vision especially in men and can be associated with intraocular foreign bodies. There are few reports of asymptomatic intralenticular foreign bodies worldwide. The incidence of intraocular cilia after trauma is very low. In this investigation, we report a case of intralenticular cilia with localized central traumatic cataract after penetrating ocular trauma following metal on metal hammering who complained of a gradual decreased vision over the past 2 months.

Methods:

case report

Results:

case description: The case was a 24y/o man who came to clinic due to gradual decrease vision in his right eye over 2 months following metal on metal hammering .In the exam, a site of 1mm sealed corneal lacerationand localized central cataract with intralenticular cilia was detected. The patient underwent lensectomy and IOL implantation, and one day after the operation the visual acuity was 10/10.

Conclusion:

Intralenticular foreign bodies are uncommon and constitute 5_10% of all intraocular foreign bodies. Intra lenticular foreign bodies can be categorized into metallic and nonmetallic such as cilia. Although in the literature intraocular cilia are more commonly associated with injury by a metallic wire, in our case metal on metal hammering caused intralenticular cilia. Presence of cilia does not influence the management of the affected eye. To the best of our knowledge Such case has never been reported.
