Purpose:
: To evaluate the effect of systemic propranolol on color Doppler imaging (CDI) characteristics of infantile periorbital capillary haemangiomas
Methods:
: Patients with infantile palpebral capillary haemangioma who visually impaired were enrolled in this prospective interventional case series. Propranolol was given at a dose of 2 mg/kg per day. CDI was performed at baseline and 3-month follow up.
Results:
: Twenty three patients with mean age of 4.1±2.3 months were enrolled. Interalesional arterial flow was identified in 20 (86.9%) patients. The intralesional blood flow had peak systolic velocity and end diastolic velocity of 23.2 ± 17.3 cm/s and 13.4 ± 8.2 cm/s, respectively. At 3-month of follow up, Interalesional arterial flow could be detected only in 3 (13.1%) patients. Complete clinical resolution of periorbital mass was observed in all patients with median follow up time of 6 months
Conclusion:
: Propranolol is a safe and effective for periorbital capillary haemagnioma. CDI could be used as the first imaging modality for diagnosis and follow up of these patients
