Purpose:
The aim of this study was to assess the impact of rigid gas-permeable contact lenses on the vision-related quality of life (VR-QoL) obtained with the standardized questionnaire, NEI-VFQ-25, in keratoconus patients.
Methods:
76 keratoconus patients with an age range of 22-38 years were selected conveniently from the contact lens clinic, Tehran, Iran. After receiving informed consent from the participants, to assess the level of compliance, the patients were requested to complete a Persian version of NEI-VFQ-25questionnaire.
Results:
The mean (±SD) age of the contact lens users was 27.16 ±4.09 years. The mean CLIQperson measure was 40.8±3.4 in KCN patients. CLIQperson measure was positively correlated with steep K value (=0.301). Out of 76 subjects, only 6 (4.1%) of the lens users were identified to be compliant. The age, gender and years of experience in contact lens use did not show any statistically significant difference in the level of compliance.
Conclusion:
The results explores the improved VR-QoL with RGP CL wear in keratoconus patients. But all subjects had some degree of non-compliance.
