Purpose:
|
MR plication has advantages of less trauma, preserving ciliary arteries and reversibility, the purpose of this study is to compare the results of Medial rectus plication with resection on exotropic patients .

Methods:
|
Method :
20 exotropic patients with age of 17+/-14 year were enrolled in this pilot RCT study .
MR plication on 10 patients as case group and MR resection on 10 patients as control groups were performed .follow up was at least 6 weeks.

Results:
|
Preoperatively exotropia were 38+/-20 and 30+/-13 pd in case and control groups respectively. Post operatively in case group 60% were ortho , 20% exoshift and 20% showed esoshift ( 5+/-3 pd ) with LRUA (-0.5 to -1) in some patients early days post operatively .in control group 90% were ortho and 10% had residual exoshift . Dose response were 4+/-1.5 in cases and 4+/-1.4 pd in controls for each mm of MR (p=0.65 ).

Conclusion:

Although there was no difference between dose response of these 2 methods ,probability of esoshift and LRUA should be warned in early post operative days in MR plication method
