Purpose:

To evaluate wavefront analysis in subclinical keratoconus

Methods:
|
Ocular higher order aberrations (HOAs) were studied in 276 eyes ( 160 control eyes, 58 keratoconic eyes and 58 Forme Fruste keratoconic eyes ) using the i-Trace aberrometer ( Tracy technologies ). HOAs were compared between 3 groups. We also found the most probable predictors of forme fruste keratoconus (FFKCN) among ocular HOAs and their specificity and sensitivity in screening of forme fruste keratoconus .

Results:

There was significant difference between FFKCN and normal control group in trefoil, quadrifoil, vertical coma, secondary astigmatism and spherical aberrations. But there wasn't any significant difference between these two groups in their horizontal coma and other aberrations. The most significant difference between these two groups was vertical coma and then spherical aberration and horizontal astigmatism respectively. There was significant difference in all values between normal and keratoconus groups.

Conclusion:

Based on our study, in future we can probably use wavefront aberrometry for detection of FFKCN before doing refractive surgery. But it seems further investigations is needed to judge about their validity for screening of FFKCN .
