Purpose:
To compare the ocular biometeric indices before and after the IOP lowering medication.
Methods:
In this prospective case series study, Patients with diagnosis of primary or secondary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension with no history of previous usage of IOP lowering medication were included. Ocular biometric indices measured by pentacam and lenstar such as Keratometry, AC angle, AC depth,Axial length, lens thickness and pachymetry were compared before and after starting IOP lowering medication. The targeting cut point for IOP was reduction of at least 20 percent from baseline.
Results:
Eighteen eyes were included. IOP was reduce from 30.05 ± 6.83 to 14.89 ± 3.88 (P<0.001).
Keratometry, AC angle, AC depth, axial length, lens thickness and pachymetry were not changed statistically significant. (P=0.18,p=0.88, ,P=0.25, P=0.97, P=0.95 and P=0.42 respectively)
Conclusion:
Lowering the IOP by medical treatment does not have any significant effect on the ocular biometric indices in patients with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
